AI-Powered Journalling Assistant

Journaling is a powerful tool for self-reflection, but it can be hard to start. Many users face writer's block or feel their entries lack depth. The challenge was to create a digital journaling experience that was not just a blank page, but an interactive partner that could guide users toward more meaningful insights.

We developed an AI-powered journaling assistant that uses generative AI to provide personalized prompts and feedback. Using RAG, it analyzes past entries to suggest relevant topics, provides context-based writing prompts and helps users identify patterns and themes over time.

Our process started with extensive user research to understand the pain points of digital journalling, and now AI is used in the writing process. We then moved to rapid prototyping, testing various AI interaction models. We focused on creating a minimalistic UI that felt natural and simple. The backend was built with a focus on creating a secure and private RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) memory system for each user, and a locally stored SQLite database.
